A method of collecting and disposing of waste material, comprises: providing at a first location a disposable sanitary disposal unit (8) that is a container having an aperture (17) for receiving waste material and a bird-lip (1) pivotably mounted at the aperture (17), the bird-lip (1) comprising a first, cover plate member (2) and a second, lower plate member (3) extending from the first plate member (2) at a fixed angle, the bird-lip (1) being pivotable between a first closed position in which the first plate member (2) overlies the aperture (17) to close the aperture and the second plate member (3) extends generally downwards into the unit (8) below the aperture, and a second open position in which the first plate member (2) is positioned so as to permit the bird-lip (1) to receive waste material and the second plate member (3) lies within the aperture to receive waste material thereon and to mask the interior of the unit, and the unit being formed of disposable material that is combustible/incineratable; after waste material has been received in the unit, transporting the unit and its contents to a second, combustion/incineration location; and combusting/incinerating the unit and its contents at said second location. |
