The apparatus comprises a subtracter (4) for calculating the difference between the address value of a target track address (1) and the counting value of an up/down counter (2); a servo head (13) connected with a speed detecting circuit (6) through a position detecting circuit (7) and connected with the counter (2) through the circuit (7) and a cylinder detecting circuit (3); a comparator (8) for conparing a reference speed signal with the speed signal from the servo head (13) to select the access speed control or the track tracing control by a switch (10) connected with a motor (12) through an power amplifier (11); and a track tracing control circuit (9) connected to the switch (10).
