A thermoforming method and apparatus are provided which enable continuous feeding and thermoforming of a web (30) of thermoplastic material through an intermittently operating thermoformer (40, 41) by feeding the web from exit roll (2) of a horizontal conveyor which deposits the web (30) on a lower forming tool (41), the conveyor being retracted as the tool (41) is moved forward, a forwardly moving upper forming tool (40) is brought into registry with the lower forming tool (41), the web (30) is formed and cooled within the forming tools and the forming tools are separated to enable removal of the formed web. The movements of the web, the conveyor and the forming tools are synchronized to allow the intermittent operation of the thermoformer with the continuous web supply. Trimming tools (50, 51) which operate in synchronism with the forming tools (40, 41) can also be provided. |
