Flexible fleece-like filter material

Filter material consists of a matrix of synthetic and/or natural fibres with incorporated filter medium. The material is in the form of a flexible leaf or sheet with a fleece-like structure and comprises in combination (a) a matrix of self-binding synthetic plastics and/or natural fibres which are at least partially fibrillated and ground down to 5-50 deg. SR with (b) a filter medium consisting of very fine fibrillated fibrous material and/or inert particles, the filter medium at least partially forming a fine spatial chain structure anchored in the matrix. Substances which bring about physical and/or chemical changes are bonded to the surface of the fibrous material and/or inert particles, e.g. immobilised cells and/or enzymes, or biocatalysts. Further synthetic plastics materials may be incorporated into the filter material in an amt. of 0-10 wt.% and provide an additional cross-linking effect. Matrix consists of a mixt. of polyolefin fibres and/or pure wood pulp, e.g. from coniferous trees, and/or cotton fibres, and/or very fine synthetic fibres, e.g. cellulose acetate. Filter medium, part. if it has inert particles, may contain polyamine as a retention agent. Synthetic plastics materials are polyacrylates.
