ELECTRICALLY REPRODUCEABLE PARTICLE TRAP

PURPOSE: To electrically regenerate a particulate trap by constituting the particulate trap from a permeable support, a plurality of alternately layered ceramic fiber filter materials and electrical heater elements. CONSTITUTION: This particulate trap 10 is constituted of a permeable support 11, a plurality of alternately laminated ceramic fiber filter materials 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20, and electrical heater elements 13, 15, 17 and 19. The filter materials 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 together with the heater elements 13, 15, 17, and 19 form a variable-sized space extending radially from the permeable support 11. When exhaust gas is made to pass through the space, particles in exhaust gas approaches to the heater elements 13, 15, 17 and 10 and collected, and evaporated at the same time that electrical energy is applied to the heater elements 13, 15, 17 and 19. Therefore, the particulate trap 10 can be regenerated by simple control without blocking a filter regardless of the engine operating conditions.
