<p>An apparatus for randomly accessing a plurality of magnetic recording cartridges (2) comprises a magazine (10) for accepting an array of such cartridges, and an elevator (70) for accessing the several cartridges associated with the magazine and for delivering the accessed cartridge to a tape transport unit.
