Flat display device

A flat display device (10) has a front screen (12) and a trough (13) as well as a base plate (17) to which metal strips have been fitted. The glass plates, that is to say the front screen and the base plate, consist of glass having a coefficient of expansion of approximately 120.10<-7>K<-1>. The trough and the metal strips are constructed from unalloyed iron sheet. Respectively corresponding glass plates and metal parts are connected by means of a connection means whose coefficient of expansion corresponds to that of the glass. Since unalloyed iron is inexpensive and easy to treat, it is easy to produce flat display devices in which metal parts which are connected to glass plates consist of unalloyed iron and the glass plates and the corresponding connecting materials have the mentioned coefficient of expansion. <IMAGE>
