Two electrode surfaces carry respectively a series of pref. T-shaped electrodes (4) and separate, adjacent transmission electrodes (3). A receiver electrode connected to an evaluation circuit extends over the transmission electrode region and is movable parallel to it. The number of transmission electrodes in total or per group is an even number. The numbers of transfer electrodes per distance period and of transmission electrodes per group are chosen to have no common denominator. ADVANTAGE - Achieves high degree of linearity despite operation with signals which are simple to generate.
