A power-assisted steering system for motor vehicles with two steering circuits (1, 11) which are separated from one another hydraulically is provided with respectively associated control devices (5, 17) which are deflected by the rotational movement of a steering wheel (6). The first steering circuit (1) is supplied by a pump (3) which is driven by a motor (2) and the second circuit (11) is supplied by a wheel-driven pump (13). A servo unit (22) has two separate working pistons. Arranged in one of the two steering circuits (1, 11) is a pressure-limiting valve (23) which is controlled by the pressure of the other circuit (11) in such a way that the overall potential of the hydraulic amplification is limited. <IMAGE>
