PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head having a thoroughly flush track width part by welding the front end of two cores which are butted against each other at a magnetic gap by a laser beam and working track width control grooves thereto. CONSTITUTION:Block half bodies 1a, 1b having the length at which the many magnetic heads can be made are formed with a groove 2 to serve as a winding window and thin nonmagnetic films to serve as the gap and are joined to each other. These half bodies are welded by laser beam welding to form a weld zone 7. The control grooves 3 are cut thereto except the parts to form the track width 4. Glass 5 is packed in the control grooves 3 to form a head block 8. The part of the track width 4 near the top part thereof and the overflowing glass 5 are ground and the weld zone 7 is removed. The block is then cut perpendicular to the magnetic gap in the glass 5 part, by which head chips are obtd. Chipping of the part to form the thin track width is obviated and the escape of the butted parts to the right and left is obviated as well during the cutting. Working is thus executed in the perfectly flush state and the magnetic head having high recording and reproducing capacity is obtd. |
