The device of the invention is used for automatically transferring discrete products 15 from a supply conveyor 11, where they are disposed in accumulated form, to another conveyor 12 with catches, on which they are transported with a given spacing. It comprises essentially a well 22 of which the entry is in communication with the conveyor 11 and of which the base overhangs the conveyor 12, a means 54 permitting and preventing, alternately, the entry of the products 15 individually into the well 22, and a means for retaining a product or a group of products superposed in the well 22 until the product or the said group is entrained by a catch 13. In order to process products in the form of flat slabs, the means 54 is also used to assist the fall of the products into the well 22. Applications in the field of the packaging of food products, particularly frozen steaks. <IMAGE>
