PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst of high activity and selectivity, by using a crystalline aluminosilicate of a specified silica/alumina ratio containing platinum and chromium as a catalyst for isomerizing xylenes. CONSTITUTION:A composition consisting of >=1 kinds of platinum, titanium, chromium, and the like metals as a catalyst for isomerizing a mixture of xylene isomers apart from the thermodynamic equilibrium contained in an aromatic hydrocarbon in presence of hydrogen, and a crystalline aluminosilicate of >=10 silica/ alumina mole ratio as its carrier is used. This catalyst suppresses undesirable side reactions and isomerizes the xylenes at high activity and selectivity. |
