PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure easily a current which is generated in a photodiode built in a package by a method wherein first to third external terminals are connected properly with one another through a photodiode and a resistor. CONSTITUTION:A first external terminal 7 is connected to an anode or a cathode of a photodiode 6 built in a package, a second external terminal 9 is connected to the connection point of one end of a resistor 8 built in the package along with the photodiode 6 with the other end of the photodiode 6 and a third external terminal 10 is connected to the other end of the resistor 8. When a prescribed voltage is applied between the terminals 7 and 10, light is irradiated on the photodiode 6 and an optical output current is made to flow through the resistor 8, a voltage to correspond to the optical output current appears between the terminals 9 and 10. Thereby, an optical output current which is generated in the packaged photodiode 6 can be easily measured.
