Sugar-fermentation method into ethanol - uses guides in widened top of reactor generating downwards particle flow

Suitable sugar is fermented into ethanol and carbon dioxide, a sugar soln. being passed through a continuous reactor contg. immobilised fermentation particles. The soln. is fed to the underside of a cylindrical reactor. The reactor is widened at the top, where it contains guides and/or baffles generating a downwards flow zone. This returns the fermentation particles in the downwards direction, while the carbon dioxide generated is drawn off at the top.
