Surface-active fatty acid ester and/or fatty acid derivatives obtained by reacting epoxidized fatty acid esters with 1 to 3 mol of sulphur trioxide per mol of epoxide oxygen at 20 to 100 DEG C, reacting the reaction product (A) with nucleophilic reagents and, if necessary, saponifying the ester bond are used as collectors in the flotation of non-sulphidic ores.
