Metal sheets, plastic mouldings or other items are stiffened by means of a single-ply or laminar material of which at least one layer is a thermosetting resin. The stiffening material is heated until at least one surface becomes tacky; it is then applied to the item to be reinforced and is then heated again until all its layers of thermosetting material have been cured out. The stiffening material pref. includes epoxy, polyurethane or copolyester resin and a thermoplastic of modified polypropylene, modified polyethylene, copolyamide or copolyester; it can contain a great variety of fillers or other materials.
