An expanding-wedge device (6) is bolted onto a brake carrier (1), which in use is mounted on an axle stub, and has a collar (20) which is fitted into a through-opening (18) of the brake carrier. This through-opening (18) is coaxial with the axis of a diaphragm cylinder (8) co-acting with the expanding wedge device (8) and a guide tube (7) of the diaphragm cylinder (8) is directly or indirectly mounted onto the brake carrier (1). The direct mounting may be by means of a screw connection 24, whereas for indirect mounting the guide tube may be secured to a flange which in turn is secured to the carrier by screw-bolts, (Fig. 4). <IMAGE>
