The described design of the solar collector permits the use of foils as an optically transparent cover, and of polypropylene plates as absorbers. The foils are clamped in the frame groove of the collector by means of soft rubber piping with a hard core. Thermal expansions of the foil are compensated by the rubber piping, which serves as a resilient element, and keep the foil tensioned in the hot operating state and prevent the foil from overexpanding upon cooling. Also conceivable instead of the rubber piping is a rubber hose filled with gas, which fulfils the same function as a temperature-dependent resilient element. The polypropylene absorber is mounted in such a way that thermal expansions are possible in the longitudinal and transverse directions without substantial deformation of the plate. The essential advantage of the use of foil covers combined with polypropylene absorbers in solar collectors are low weight and low material costs.
