A process and a device are useful for corona treatment of workpieces, in particular plastic mouldings and films. The device consists of an alternating current generator (4), a discharge device (1) with two electrodes (2, 3) and a transformer (5) connected between said generator and said discharge device. The generator (4) has a current inverter with a power end stage (7) which has no oscillating circuit and a controllable oscillation generator (9). In the mains lead to the transformer, a separate coil (14) is connected in series with a primary coil (12). During operation, the electric power output by the generator (4) is measured and compared with a set reference value. The frequency of the alternating current produced by the generator is varied in function of the result of the comparison until the reference and actual values of the electric power coincide.
