The invention is concerned with antigenic polypeptides having a determinant or determinants immunologically cross-reactive with determinants on a polypeptide associated with the rhoptry organelles of the merozoite form of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. Further, the invention is concerned with immunogenic compositions which contain such a polypeptide and a suitable adjuvant, with DNAs coding for such a polypeptide, recombinant vectors containing such a DNA sequence, unicellular host organisms which contain such a replicable vector as well as antibodies which are directed against a polypeptide in accordance with the invention. Furthermore. the invention is concerned with a process for the production of the immunogenic compositions, of the microorganisms and of the antibodies as well as with the use of the polypeptides and the immunogenic compositions for the immunization of mammals against malaria.
