PURPOSE:To provide an image display device capable of displaying a uniform image without color slippage and with high contrast. CONSTITUTION:The image display device 1 is constituted of a read light source 2, a polarizing beam splitter 3 converting a beam of light from the read light source 2 to a linearly polarized light beam, a dichroic mirror 4 as a color separation means, a rotation means 5 rotating a polarization direction defined as the vibration direction of the electric field vector of the beam of light of the linearly polarized light beam, a reflection type liquid crystal spatial optical modulation element 6, a writing transmission type liquid crystal spatial optical modulation element 7, a write light source 8, an image forming lens 9, a projection lens 10 and a screen 11. By the rotation meams 5, at least either one side polarization direction of an incident beam on the reflection type liquid crystal spatial optical modulation element 6 and an outgoing beam from the reflection type liquid crystal spatial optical modulation element 6 is rotated. |
