PURPOSE:To automatically divide an arbitrary form into finite elements by providing a means which transforms a straight line segment into a segment parallel to the coordinate axis. CONSTITUTION:When the two-dimensional form (a) is inputted from a graphic input part 1 or a graphic read part 7 to an arbitrary form setting part 8, a form (b), which is obtained by approximating the curved part of the form by the straight line, is generated. The respective line segments constituting the form (b) are allocated in parallel with an (x) axis or a (y) axis, and the form (b) is transformed into an approximate model such as a form (c). Thus the arbitrary form can be transformed into a graphic composed only of the straight lines in parallel with the coordinate axes, a grating is combined with the approx imate model, a curvilinear coordinate transformation method can be applied, and the arbitrary form can be automatically divided into the finite elements. |
