PURPOSE:To improve a whole throughput by expanding a font cache area according to a prescribed rule as RAM capacity is expanded. CONSTITUTION:A font pattern generated in a font pattern generator 204 is stored into a font cache memory 207 so as to be retrievable by a dot image. Further a memory space is dynamically altered so that an expanded RAM port 205, which is not ordinarily used for the storage of a font pattern but is storable by the dot image, ma be incorporated to a part of a font cache memory 207, and the space of the font cache memory 207 to store the font pattern as necessary is increased/decreased. Thus since the font cache area can be expanded according to a prescribed rule as the RAM capacity is expanded, the whole RAM space can be effectively utilized, and the throughput of the whole device can be improved. |
