PURPOSE: To prevent the missing in coating application in a transporting direction of a web by adopting the constitution to dispose a preceding doctor blade under a rotating backing roll, to fluidize a coating material to a thin layer form at a high velocity and supplying the coating to the handle portion of the preceding blade. CONSTITUTION: The surface of the backing roller 15 is coated with the web 1 to be applied and rotates in an H direction. The coating material is supplied along a supply path 3 to a cavity 16 where the coating material receives pressure. The coating material is sent through a narrow supply path 4 to the handle portion of the flexible preceding doctor blade 5. The blade 5 is disposed to incline elastically and forms a small angleαwith the web 1. A load controller 7 is divided to a plurality independently in the transverse direction of the web 1 and the load of the blade 5 is changeable across the transverse direction of the web 1, by which the deposition distribution of the coating material layer is adjusted to a desirable amt. in the transverse direction of the web 1. A supplying beam 11 is turned around an pivotal axis 10 and the excess coating material is collected in coating material collecting channels 9 and 8. Final scraping is executed by the main doctor blade 12 mounted at a frame 17 when necessary.
