In a variable delivery pump which supplies a plurality of consumers, the pump controller is driven for the purpose of setting the flow rate by a signal which is respectively produced by the load-conducting consumer by providing that a valve, in particular a pressure compensator (manometric balance), assigned to the consumer opens a metering (land) edge in its terminal control range, via which a pressure signal is guided from an arbitrary pressure (hydraulic) fluid (medium) source to the pump controller. In such a type of control there are very versatile possibilities as to at which point the pressure compensator is installed, which pressure difference is applied to it, and from which pressure medium source the signal pressure for the pump controller is extracted.
