<p>A filter assembly (110) has a housing (111) having an elevated inlet (116) and an elevated outlet (118) through which substantial flows entering through the inlet (116) may be discharged. A filter chamber (120) having in-line filter screens (121, 122) therein is provided in the lower portion of the housing (111) while the upper portion of the housing is substantially unobstructed so as to permit full flows through the inlet (116) to pass through the upper portion to the outlet (118). An elevated open topped flow opening (135) receives flows through the inlet (116) and diverts small flows to the filter chamber (120) for passage to a holding chamber (136) for holding filtered water. Moderate and torrential flows feed back through the flow opening (135) to the outlet (118) through the substantially unobstructed upper portion of the housing (111), thus bypassing the filter chamber (120).</p> |
