<p>PURPOSE:To make it possible to always exhibit an appropriate steering feeling by providing a means for effecting a restraining force in accordance with a displacement by a relative motion between a valve element in a hydraulic control valve for controlling the hydraulic pressure fed to an actuator and a casing of the valve, and a restraining force in accordance with a vehicle speed. CONSTITUTION:A hydraulic control valve 6 for controlling the hydraulic pressure fed to a hydraulic cylinder S for producing a steering assist force is composed of a short cylindrical casing 60 fitted rotatably in a cylindrical housing 10, and a valve element 61 fitted in the casing 60. This control valve S is adapted to control the supply amount and supply direction of the fed hydraulic pressure in accordance with a relative displacement between the valve element 61 and the casing 60 which corresponds to a steering torque applied to an input shaft 2. Further, the control valve 6 includes a hydraulic pressure reacting part 1 including a reaction chamber 33 which receives a discharge pressure from a vehicle speed sensor pump SP so as to give a restraining force against the above-mentioned relative displacement.
