In a process and an apparatus for disposing of refrigerators for separating off chlorofluorocarbons, the refrigerators are mechanically disintegrated to granule size in an area sealed off from the outside. The chlorofluorocarbons released are extracted by a suction device and fed to a filter unit where the chlorofluorocarbons are collected.
