The coding of plugs by means of a suitable design of the plug face and socket face is relatively costly. It can also no longer be changed retrospectively. It is proposed to provide the plug part with fixed coding in the form of at least one recess running over the insertion length, and to provide the plug socket with openings assigned to the position of the recesses, into which openings coding pins can optionally be pushed and locked. As a result of this refinement, it is possible to assign corresponding faces of the plug sockets to various faces of plugs, even retrospectively, by insertion of the coding pins.
