PURPOSE: A bit allocation method is provided to carry out a rapid bit allocation in a low speed hardware structure by allocating bits through a calculation of a mask to noise ratio using a pseudo signal to mask ratio. CONSTITUTION: A value of a pseudo signal to mask ratio is replaced with a signal to mask ratio to calculate an original required bit allocation amount(ST11). The value of a pseud signal to mask ratio is compared to a value of a signal to noise in each band so that an index for a minimum bit allocation is selected for a mask to noise value to be positive(ST12). A required bit amount is calculated by adding bits allocated in all bands and the required bit amount is compared with a bit amount allocatable(ST14). If the required bit amount is larger than the allocatable bit amount, A voice pressure level is subtracted from the value of a pseudo signal to mask value in each band(ST15). |
