PURPOSE:To easily form a channel optical waveguide and a waveguide type passive element which are decreased in transmission loss with small man-hours by interposing a mask between an injection jig and a substrate, injecting the raw material of a material from the injection jig and depositing it on the substrate, and performing a process for changing the raw material into the material. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of the substrate 1, fine clad glass particles are deposited to specific thickness by flame deposition which uses a torch 2 to form a particulate layer 3 which becomes a clad layer. Then, the mask 5 which is holed in the pattern 4 of a desired channel optical waveguide is placed on the particulate layer 3 in contact and core glass particulates are injected by the torch 2 to form a pattern 4a of the core glass particulate layer. This is heat-treated at specific temperature into transparent glass to form a ridge type channel optical waveguide which includes the particulate layer 3 as the clad layer and has the desired pattern 4a. Consequently, the channel optical waveguide which is decreased in transmission loss is obtained with small man- hours. |
