PURPOSE:To prevent the shortcircuit flow of a gas such as air by specifying the solid concentration in an applicable sealing material to be equal to or above a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical solid electrolyte cell comprises a fuel electrode, a solid electrolyte 3 and an air electrode laminated on the external surface of a base tube 1. In the aforesaid fuel cell, a sealing agent containing 40wt% or more of yttrium stabilized zirconia as solid concentration is applied to a gap at the lamination of the solid electrolyte 3 on the base tube 1 and then dried and baked. In this case, it is desirable to use a sealing agent comprising one part of yttrium stabilized zirconia grain of 0.1 to 0.5mum blended with 0.5 to 4.0 parts of yttrium stabilized zirconia grains of 0.5 to 2.0mum. According to the aforesaid construction, the sealing agent can be effectively filled in a gap part formed in the electrolyte 5 and, therefore, an gas shortcircuit flow is prevented, thereby enabling the efficient conversion of a fuel such as hydrogen to electrical energy without any loss of the fuel. |
