This invention relates to 1,2,3,3a,8,8a-hexahydro-1,3a,8-trimethylpyrrolo[2,3-b] indol-5-ol carbonate esters of the formula where R is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or X is hydrogen or halogen; the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof and where applicable to the geometric and optical isomers and racemic mixtures thereof. The compounds of this invention display utility as analgesic agents.
