The optical scanning mechanism (9), the photosensitive drum (1), and the transfer drum (6), of a copying machine are driven by independent electric motors (18,21,22), each with an associated pulse generator providing signals indicative of rotation, and of the position of the paper gripper (17) attached to the transfer drum. The signals are received by a servo controller (23) and a master controller (24) which both control the transfer drum speed so that the latent image forming initiation point (IMO) and the transfer initiation point (PO) coincide, and stop the copying operation of a time interval between signals to indicate an operating defect. |
