PURPOSE: A tub cleaning method of a washing machine is provided to achieve high tub cleaning performance in sanitation by executing cleaning of a tub by an optimum tub cleaning algorithm and to prevent lowering of washing performance of the washing machine. CONSTITUTION: A tub cleaning method of a washing machine comprises steps of making moisture penetrate into pollutants attached to the surface of a tub by executing water supply without throwing the laundry in; making penetration of moisture activated by executing first washing; executing soak of the pollutants by maintaining the laundry in a state of stopping washing for predetermined time; making the pollutants fall off the surface of the tub by executing second washing; and discharging the pollutants in the tub by executing drainage.
