Multi-layer insulation for an electrical conductor, which includes, at least on the surface, a low-ductility metal or alloy, especially cupronickel. The first layer in contact with the conductor is made of epoxy resin filled with an inert mineral material and its second layer is made of an unfilled hot-melt adhesive resin deposited in the form of powder and then homogenised by heating. Method of manufacture, in which the powder of hot-melt adhesive resin is deposited electrostatically or by passage through a fluidised bed of the powder. Application to the manufacture of superconducting wires. <IMAGE>
