Walking aid

A simply operated, extendable walking aid has a rubber plug (7) at the lower end of the tubular support leg (1) and an ice spike (15) which can be pushed out and pulled in through the rubber plug (7) and is arranged at the lower end of a rod (14) displaceably mounted in the support leg (1) and extending up to the upper region of the support leg (1). The support leg (1) comprises an upper external pipe (5) and a lower internal pipe (6) telescopically mounted relative to the external pipe (5), lockable and provided with the rubber plug (7). In the upper region of the external pipe (5) there is a displaceably mounted piston (1) which has an axial bore (13), in which the rod (14) with the ice spike (15) is displaceable, and a screw thread in which an adjustment screw (16) engages for locking of the rod (14) relative to the piston (12). The screw projects through a slot (18) in the external pipe (5) outwards. Furthermore, there is a device with which the piston (12) can be locked relative to the external pipe (5) in an upper position in which the ice spike (15) is pulled in and a lower position in which the ice spike (15) is pushed out. The walking aid can be produced by slightly varying existing, commercially available crutches. <IMAGE>
