A method for supression or attenuation of undesired non-harmonic spectra in digital dynamic expansion comprises the step of using a higher scanning frequency fA, for the digital dynamic expansion than for subsequent processing of the expanded signal. An analog compressed signal may be converted to a digital signal in an analog-to-digital converter A/D with use of the higher scanning frequency fA, digitally expanded in an expander EXP at the same higher frequency, and subsequently reduced to the processing frequency fA in a decimation filter DF. <IMAGE>
