PURPOSE:To improve the blocking resistance and adhesiveness to a synthetic resin film and the boiling resistance by using an epoxy-modified polyurethane obtd. by modifying a polyurethane with a 1,2-epoxy alcohol as the major component of a printing ink binder. CONSTITUTION:A polymeric polyol [e.g. poly(1,2-propylene adipate)glycol], a diisocyanate (e.g. isophorone diisocyanate) and a chain extender (e.g. isophoronediamine) are reacted to give a polyurethane, which is then reacted with a 1,2-epoxy alcohol (e.g. glycidol) to give an epoxy-modified polyurethane. The latter reaction is carried out in such a manner that an epoxy group content per gram of the resulting epoxy-modified polyurethane is 1X10<-6>-2X10<-4> gram equivalents. The epoxy-modified polyurethane, if necessary, compounded with a rosin-derived resin, is used as the major component to produce a printing ink binder. |
