4-Quinolone derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are prepd. by the cyclization of a cpd. of formula (II), followed by the reaction with a cpd. of formula R1-X. In the formulas, R1 and R2 are each H, C1-6 alkyl or C2-4 alkenyl; R3 is H, C1-8 alkyl, C2-4 alkenyl or C7-9 aralkyl; X is phenyl (opt. substd. by H, halogen, C1-8 alkyl, C1-3 alkyl halide, C1-3 alkoxy or COOR4) or 5- or 6membered unsatd. hetero cyclic gp. having N, O or S (i.e. pyridyl, furyl or thienyl); R4 is H or C1-3 alkyl. (I) are useful as antiallergic agent, expectorant, and antithrombotic agent.
