PURPOSE:To provide the title new, bioabsorbable copolymer producible in high efficiency, useful for surgical materials such as absorbable operational sutures or medical carriers, made up of alpha-type malic acid-glycolic acid unit. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer made up of recurring unit of formula I [R1 is 1-10C chain alkylene, (aryl-substituted) 1-5C alkylidene, etc.; R2 is H, aralkyl, etc.; x is 0.001-0.99]. It is suggested that this copolymer be prepared by copolymerization between a monomer of formula II (R3 is carboxyl-protective group) and a cyclic diester of alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid (pref. glicolide or lactide), etc. Specifically, for example, bulk polymerization is carried out in an inert atmosphere using as initiator tin octylate. |
