A package for liquids is disclosed which minimises the prospect of the liquid contacting the user. The package comprises a body including a cylinder. A piston is inside the cylinder and cannot readily be removed from the cylinder because of a stop ring. The end of the cylinder is closed by an end cap which is secured to the cylinder. The cap includes a line of weakening at. The neck of the package has a combined closure and valve unit secured to it. The unit includes a valve closure element. The package is opened by puncturing the diaphragm which lies within the sleeve and using a hollow spike which has penetrated the diaphragm to lift the element off its set. The cap is broken along the line of weakening and a fluid under pressure applied to the back of the piston to urge the contents of the cylinder past the open valve and out through the sleeve.
