A method and/or a component for making the kinetic energy of electrons in semiconductors and metals useful. The component is subjected to an external magnetic field. It has a service layer which is curved in a predetermined spherical manner. The surface layer is deposited on an electrical insulator and/or insulating material (base body). The magnitude and direction of the magnetic field are set such that the path curvature radius of the electrons in the layer has an identical or virtually identical order of magnitude to the semiconductor curvature; the magnetic field is furthermore matched to the order of magnitude of the mean free wavelength of the electrons in a predetermined material. A potential difference can be picked off between two adjacent points on the semiconductor layer.
