PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of pits by ejecting molten metal onto the surface of a cylindrical cooling body which revolves in a local evacuating part through a nozzle slit which is provided below said cooling body and opens in the local evacuating part by means of a differential pressure from the liquid surface of a tundish as nozzle pressurizing force. CONSTITUTION:An evacuating chamber 15 is provided below a cooling roll 10 under high-speed revolution. The chamber 15 is constituted tightly by means of a sealing box 14, and is evacuated to about 1mm.Hg beforehand by means of a vacuum pump 16. When a gate 18 opens, large kinetic energy is exerted on molten metal M by the differential pressure between the pressure level (about 1mm.Hg) in the chamber 15 and the internal space of an intermediate nozzle 12 and the atmospheric pressure acting upon the molten metal M in a tundish 11 and the molten metal is ejected onto the outside circumferential surface of the roll 10 through a nozzle slit 13 whereby the molten metal is solidified. In this way, a thin strip S of amorphous metal free from formation of pits is obtained. |
