PURPOSE:To automatically obtain picture outline data by specifying an outline picture element, and determining a density range, and determining a new outline adjacent to the outline picture element specified before, and generating the picture outline data by repeating these operations. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed original picture is read by an input scanner 1, and picture data Do is obtained, and is given to a picture processing device 2, and is stored in a memory 23 through a buffer memory 21. One picture data Dom is given to a graphic display 4, and a picture Io is displayed, and besides, density different for every picture element is indicated. An operator determines a picture element block Bp to be the starting point of a contour line B, and determines the outline picture element Ps1 on the basis of the density of each picture element in the block Bp. Next, he determines the picture element on the contour line adjacent to the picture element Ps1 to be a second outline picture element Ps2, and calculates the average density of the outline picture element and the density of a background picture element. By repeating these operations counterclockwise on the contour line B, the picture outline data is generated on the basis of the position coordinate data of the outline picture element. |
