The invention relates to a method for grinding the cutting edge of a tooling workpiece, defined by the intersection of a transverse cutting plane and a lateral cutting face. According to the invention it includes a first step of progressive machining of the lateral cutting face 16 by means of a numerically controlled machine tool, the tool 36 of which works by removing material along a working axis U perpendicular to the transverse cutting plane, followed by a second step of final machining of the lateral cutting face 16 by means of the said machine tool 30 and, during which, the movements of the tool 36 are controlled by a procedure for copying a reference contour 16 formed on the tooling workpiece 10 and the profile of which determines the final grinding profile of the cutting edge. <IMAGE>
