A device for compensating movements between an observer in a vehicle and an optical observation apparatus mounted on the vehicle, the device being of the periscopic type comprising an arm, which is articulated in parallel planes and comprises a first vertical part of the arm suspended from the observation apparatus and a second horizontal part of the arm carrying an ocular support, the arm including angle bends in which the incident beam is directed by a system of parallelmirrors and/or prisms to the ocular suppot, wherein the articulation means is arranged to allow the ocular support to be displaced freely horizontally and vertically in a single plane perpendicular to the path of the incident optical beam of the apparatus but not parallel thereto.
