PURPOSE:To simply manufacture an entirely solid electrochromic (EC) display device with high reliability at a low cost by interposing an org. solid electrolyte film between a color developing layer of a reducible EC substance and a color developing layer of an oxidizable EC substance. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2 are formed on transparent substrats 1, the 1st color developing layer 3 of a reducible EC substance such as WO3 or a viologen polymer is laid on one of the electrodes, and the 2nd color developing layer 4 of an oxidizable EC substance such as Ir oxide is laid on the other. An org. solid electrolyte film 5 which transmits ion but does not transmit electron, e.g., a cationic conductive film of polyvinyl sulfonate or polystyrene sulfonate is interposed between both the substrates to manufacture an EC display device. Thus, the EC display device which responds quickly, can be driven at a low voltage and has a long life is obtd. by said simple manufacturing method. |
