PURPOSE:To prevent the abrupt change of the friction force between a cleaning blade and a photosensitive belt by idling the photosensitive belt nearly one turn before the 1st image formation mounted with the fresh photosensitive unit. CONSTITUTION:A detecting window 10 formed in the casing of the cleaning blade unit is disposed near the position right behind the passage in order to detect a detecting marker 31 at the time of mounting the fresh photosensitive belt 9 on the photosensitive unit. The image forming operation of the 1st sheet is carried out only after the photosensitive belt 9 makes nearly one turn after the mounting of the photosensitive unit and pushing of a printing start button. The developing roller of a developing device is operated simultaneously with the start of driving of the photosensitive belt 9. Since the developing toner sticks onto the belt during one idling of the photosensitive belt, the toner sticks on the cleaning blade at the time when the image formation is started. The rapid change in the friction force between the photosensitive belt 9 and the cleansing blade 24 is obviated in this way.
