A process for cleaning magnetic heads is implemented by means of a magnetic tape (10) which comprises, in addition to the section (12) coated with a magnetizable material, a terminal cleaning section (13) provided with a coating for mechanical and/or chemical cleaning of the magnetic head. The data read on the magnetic tape are evaluated in order to detect data errors due to dirt on the magnetic head. When such an error is detected, the cleaning section of the tape comes into operation. |
